Chavoin Residence

Chavoin is a vibrant place designed for young women to feel comfortable and supported during their years of secondary study under the supervision of live-in female staff.

Staff from St Monica’s College feel free to attend the college at different times. Some are employed for various positions in the Residence. The College Principal has a strong presence there liaising frequently with the Female Head of Boarding. Dinner and mass on Sunday evening is a popular time for staff to visit.  The Head of Chavoin Residence attends Morning Briefing once a week at St Monica’s College to speak to the entire staff as well as attending a Leadership Team Meeting to report to them directly about important boarding issues.

A typical day in boarding begins with showers to be ready for breakfast at 7.15. Many students ask to rise earlier for exercise. After breakfast they are transported to the college by bus and take their Morning Tea with them. A hot lunch is delivered to St Monica’s College twice a week in Summer and three times a week in Winter – other days the students prepare their lunch from a variety of offerings in the morning. At the end of the day the Boarders can return to Chavoin House straight after school or remain in the Dungarvan Library at the college to study.

They partake in sporting and other activities before dinner at 5.45 pm after which they have a session of supervised study. Tutors are available during this time and the students have access to digital and other resources.  After a short break, senior students return to a second study session while younger students prepare for bed. These times vary depending on the year level of the students.
